Review: GTOX Hangover Blocker (2009)

Posted: Mar 24, 2009 at 4:34 PM (Last Updated: Jul 15, 2009 at 4:26 PM)
Gtox is a product that’s billed as a “detox shot” and a “hangover blocker” and comes packaged in a 4 oz. plastic bottle. It’s formulated with potassium glucarate, a compound that, once in the body, is changed to a substance that is thought to inhibit a liver enzyme that helps cleanse the body. That, in turn, is where the anti-hangover and recovery functions come into play, but that’s about all of the science we’ll bore you with. The product uses a sucralose sweetened formulation that’s been given a citrus flavor – and it’s surprisingly refreshing to drink. Despite being free of sodium, the product has a slightly salty flavor that’s reminiscent of a sports drink. In all honesty, the flavor is that enjoyable that we’d be quite pleased if this product came in a bigger package. Speaking of packaging, the 4 oz. plastic bottle is rather unique looking, with a slim shape and a fully wrapped design that’s clean and modern looking. The large G is easy to spot, although the multiple type treatments and colors are a bit hard on the eye. We’re also wonder if having the word “hangover” appear twice is going to help or pigeonhole the product – there’s certainly a much larger market for the greater “detox” function. In addition, “recovery” is a benefit that’s also mentioned, but it seems lost in the shuffle at the bottom of the label. Wording questions aside, we like this product’s unique look – and we really love what’s inside the bottle (even if it’s only 4 ounces). Definitely worth a try.
