Review: Carrot (2014)

Health-Ade’s Carrot variety is definitely the company's most adventurous -- at least in terms of its flavor -- to date. Even for kombucha, a category in which suppliers are not shy about doing things that seem outside the box, we were a little nervous about what would be inside this bottle. Fortunately, the first sip of this product eased our fears, with the flavor of the carrot working extremely well with Health Ade's base of raw organic kombucha (which, if you’ve read any of our other reviews about the brand, we’re big fans of). Aside from adding an orange hue to the liquid, the carrot has been used sparingly such that it doesn’t overwhelm the palate in the way that it often does in juice products. Plus, it adds a subtle earthy flavor that’s a nice complement to the fermented flavor of the kombucha. All in all, we are very pleased with what the company has created. Packaging and branding is, like the rest of the brand, very polished looking and appealing compared with competing products. We will admit that we see a slight challenge selling a carrot-flavored kombucha against more standard flavors, such as Lemon Ginger, but the company certainly put its best foot forward in terms of the label design. Overall, Health-Ade Carrot is a well-executed addition to the lineup that is both enjoyable to consume and helps position the company as an innovator.
