Review: Pineapple Jamu (2014)

This product is an HPP blend of pineapple, water, coconut water, turmeric, ginger, beet, lime, and tamarind. Given that it has water and coconut water added to the mix, this flavor is noticeably lighter than the other flavors that we sampled. Still, the product has very nice pineapple, ginger, and turmeric flavors, which would probably be overwhelming if the company didn’t cut it with water. Given that turmeric is a pretty assertive flavor even in low doses, it’s a flavor that lingers throughout the mix. The lime and tamarind flavors come into play at the finish, while we didn’t really taste the beet. All in all, we’d describe this product as refreshing, but complex, with just the right amount of sweetness. Visually, the product is appealing to the senses, but the design could be tightened up. Specifically, the name of the brand is both poorly placed and not bold enough compared to the rest of the text. Placing it up top and making it bigger would be a great start. In addition, we feel as though the product should be renamed “Pineapple Turmeric.” Aside from making it more marketable and straightforward (why waste time educating consumers on what jamu means?), it would also make the product more consistent with the other flavors. Overall, we really enjoyed the flavor of this product but hope that there are some changes to the packaging and name of the product.
