“Jav ‘a Latte” is a vegan, non-GMO, organic meal replacement product that features 17g of protein per 11.2 oz. container. It’s made with rice and pea protein, which makes the product safe for those who can’t (or don’t) consume dairy or soy. It’s also fortified with loads of other ingredients, including milled chia, coffee (55mg of caffeine per container), a superfoods blend of 21 ingredients, and quinoa. From a flavor perspective, it’s surprisingly tasty, with a pleasant coffee flavor and none of the bitterness that you’ll find in soy and dairy based protein drinks. There is a slight grit to the body of the product, but it doesn’t really impact the experience too much. The product is sweetened with brown rice syrup and blue agave, which definitely seems to complement the flavor profile of the other ingredients. All in all, we really like what they’ve created inside the package -- it definitely seems like something that would fit well in the natural channel. The outside, however, is another story. While the 11.2 oz. Tetra Pak Dream Cap container is a perfectly fine choice and “Komplete” is a straightforward name, the design of the product is less than appealing. The two primary issues are that it’s too busy and that it lacks a polished and personable look. Honestly, the branding for the company, KateFarms, that appears on the back of the container seems much better. As it stands right now, we think they’re missing a bigger opportunity until they evolve the branding forward. Especially since what’s inside the container is great.
