Review: Refreshing Rhuberry (2015)

This flavor, along with the Blueberry variety, is one of the few flavors of Live Kombucha Soda that isn’t a straight play on a traditional soda flavor. Presumably a merger of rhubarb and strawberry, it has a more fruity flavor than any of the others. Given that it’s been mixed with an effervescent base of kombucha, it’s admittedly somewhat hard to identify this as any particular fruit flavor. There’s a pretty heavy note of tea flavor to it, and the product is sweetened with a sugar and stevia blend. All of this combined makes for a complex, but smooth flavor that’s pretty unique as far as kombucha flavors go (especially since it’s not vinegary in any way). Plus, it’s nice that the product has only 60 calories per bottle without compromising on flavor. If there’s any knock on this product it will be on its authenticity as a kombucha, but a traditional kombucha product is clearly not what this is trying to be. That’s especially obvious when you look at the packaging, which is very buttoned up and has a unique look in comparison to other products that are out there. We especially like the new bottle, which is very attractive and makes the product stand out from others, including all of the sodas that it used to look like (the old package was a long-neck glass bottle). The label is the same one that we’ve seen in previous versions of the Live line. It’s polished looking and vibrant, with the accent color making for a nice contrast with the tan color of the liquid. Plus, it communicates everything that the consumer needs to know if an easy to read format. Overall, another great flavor from Live Kombucha Soda.
