Made with chaga and reishi mushrooms, both of which are consumed for medicinal purposes, as well as green tea, Mudra Mushroom attempts to blend one of today’s trendy ingredients into something that can be consumed by the masses. In this case, the company has also added lemon juice concentrate, ginger, natural flavor, and a touch of honey. At 20 calories, it’s about as close to unsweetened as you’ll find from a bottle of tea that features some sort of sweetener. It serves to cut the acidity more so than provide any flavor or sweetness. While this will be fine for most people, it’s definitely unexpected as the front of the bottle doesn’t give any indication as to whether or not this is a sweet product. Otherwise, there’s a nice lemon flavor to the product and a hint of ginger to the finish. You can’t taste the added mushrooms, which is fine, but the product ends up tasting similar to other products that are already on the market. Visually, the product uses a standard 16 oz. glass bottle and a stock cap. As for the design and the branding, it feels pretty matter-of-fact thanks to the use of mushroom in the name. That said, we think that this product will have a hard time appealing to consumers who aren’t already in the know with regards to reishi and chaga. All in all, we like the notion of a functional mushroom tea, but we feel as though this product needs to do more to really stand out to a broader audience.
