Review: Citrus

PRO-NRG is a 4 oz. energy and protein drink drink that is sugar free and designed to be used either before or after a workout. From a flavor perspective, the non-carbonated formulation is closer in style to an energy shot than an energy drink. There’s a reasonably pleasant-tasting citrus flavor to the product, but it also has the bite of added functional ingredients and artificial sweeteners. That said, 4 ounces seems about the limit of what one could possibly drink of this product. Functionally, the product features caffeine, 15g of protein, B vitamins, and other functional ingredients. It certainly appears to have the ingredients of a an energy and protein drink. Visually, the PRO-NRG bottle feels simple and plain, bordering on technical with its text heavy approach to the design. The clear bottle definitely helps, although we’d probably rather have a gold bottle over the added coloring. Ultimately, our biggest concern for PRO-NRG is its branding, which lacks personality and sounds like a supplement for athletes rather than something that would be sold in a retail environment (which, at some point, is a limiting approach). Overall, it’s a good product and we like how they’ve integrated energy and protein, but we feel as though a lot more could be done with the brand.
