Review: Black Cherry

The better of the two Pro-Ade flavors, Black Cherry has a better pairing of flavor to go with the heavy amount of whey protein isolate that’s in this product. It starts out with a pretty strong black cherry aroma, almost like what you’d find in a black cherry soda. From there, the flavor is slightly sweet (from sucralose) and tart, but it quickly turns over to the tartness of the protein. As far as protein drinks go, it’s decent, but it’s definitely not the best tasting protein drink out there. Functionally, the product has 90 calories, 20 grams of protein, added electrolytes and only 3 grams of carbohydrates, which certainly makes it stand up well against other competing products. On the packaging front, the 16.9 oz. bottle has an athletic vibe to it, but it feels slightly generic, with the block font and star in the middle of the two words. The use of a metallic label might catch the eye, but it makes it very hard to read the text (“protein water”, the key benefit of the drink, is almost totally lost). Figuring out how to address these technical issues will definitely improve this drink. Overall, Pro-Ade Black Cherry has some technical flaws, but we still find it to be an enjoyable choice when it comes to protein drinks.
