With capsaicin providing the only spice in the drink, Prometheus Springs’ Spicy Pear is probably as close to “entry level” spice as you’ll find in the lineup. The first thing that we noticed about this flavor was the strong aroma of pear flavoring, which hits the nose a little too hard. Flavor is also heavy on the pear, which, at 25 percent juice, is no surprise. Fortunately, the flavoring doesn’t stand out the way that it does with the aroma, and the pear flavor tastes natural and accurate. The capsaicin spice is straightforward, meaning that it lacks the pepper flavor found in some of the other varieties. The new packaging is illustrated and busy, which is a big change from the old design. Aside from cutting it down to a more appropriate 10 oz. size, the company has definitely made the packaging more intuitive. Instead of appearing to look simply like a bottle of lemonade, the full wrapped bottle is very clearly a spicy beverage (chili peppers and the word “spicy” should clue you in). However, giving it a bit more polish (both in the design and the label application) would be helpful. Overall, a nice flavor from Prometheus Springs.
