Review: Acai Berry - 100

Among the three beverages that make up Sambazon’s new “100” sub-line -- named for its use of at least 100 acai berries per bottle and 100-calorie or less formulation -- we went went straight for this variety, Acai Berry, to see how well this translation to a lower-calorie profile worked out. Fortunately, we’d say it’s quite successful. The body of the product is slightly less viscous than the original, but the product is still loaded with acai flavor. It’s sweetened with agave, erythritol and stevia, but Sambazon has done a really nice job of masking the latter two. In addition, there’s a hint of lime and sea salt, which definitely help round things out. All in all, this is a very enjoyable formulation. Visually, the “100” is intuitively something that refers to the caloric content of the product. While this is impossible to miss, it does seem a bit too in-your-face to the point where one might expect something that’s not going to taste as good as it does. Increasing the “100 berries” call out might help this as it sounds much more positive. Otherwise, the packaging is clean and polished, and we like the use of a white and purple backdrop to help set it apart from the brand's other products. Overall, Acai Berry 100 is both a nice addition of the Sambazon lineup as a whole and the standout flavor of the 100 sub-line.
