Review: Simply Plain 2015

(Last Updated: Jul 22, 2014 at 12:26 PM)
Simply Plain is a slightly different experience than the other varieties of Slingshot yogurt drink. For this one, the company has skipped the added sweetener and flavoring, leaving just the yogurt and the attached shot. That said, the ingredients in the shot, which includes chia seeds, toasted oats and almond pieces, take center stage when it comes to flavor. And the added crunch and chew that you get from these ingredients doesn’t hurt either. Nutritionally, this product has the most protein of the four flavors at 20g per bottle (assuming you mix in the shot). It also has the lowest calories at just under 300. Plus, it has fiber (3g), vitamins, calcium, and omega 3 and 6. It’s a very well-rounded and wholesome product. On the packaging front, the most obvious thing about this product’s appearance is the shot that’s taped around the bottle’s neck in a ring-like shape. It certainly makes the product stand out visually. As for the label, this one, which has a brown background rather than the whitish color of the others, doesn’t have the same visual appeal as its counterparts. Some of that is because it lacks an accent graphic (for the flavoring), but it’s also because the text on the front of the label is very difficult to read as it’s almost the same color as the background. Lastly, we wish that the product had a slightly more appealing name than “plain.” Overall, we really like the concept, but the label needs some small improvements.
