Review: Berry Punch
Study Aid is a non-carbonated dietary supplement that currently comes in a single flavor, Berry Punch. With a tagline of “Unleash the Genius,” the product claims to be developed by students for students to help promote mental awareness. To do this, the product includes B vitamins, L-theanine, caffeine, inositol, ginkgo, ginseng, goji berry and bilberry extract. As for the flavor, the product, which is sweetened with sugar, sucralose and Ace-K, has a familiar tasting berry flavor that’s tolerable, but not something that one would consume for flavor alone. The packaging looks technical, but polished, and the matter of fact branding certainly makes it look the part of a functional product. However, we really question focusing on a niche like this. Products like Red Bull, 5-hour Energy, or coffee are the competition for a product like this and given its narrow focus, it’s hard to imagine there being a big consumer base that’s going to give up whatever they are currently consuming for this product. That said, we think that manufacturer needs to think a bit bigger, both in terms of the positioning and the experience that’s inside the bottle. As it stands right now, this seems like a very niche product that’s going to have a hard time getting space in the cooler. But if the company is really insistent on this function and positioning, a shot, rather than a 12 oz. bottle, would seem more appropriate given what it's currently providing.
