Of the three flavors that make up Suja Essentials’ "1-Day Renewal" set, Sunset Protein is definitely the star of the show. While it’s not a juice (and we suspect the set's green juice will get the most attention at the store level), the product delivers 10 grams of vegan protein, and a really well-executed flavor. Ingredients in the drink include almond milk, banana, coconut sugar, pea protein, vanilla, cinnamon and allspice. From a taste perspective, the slightly sweet (10g of sugar) liquid is much lighter in flavor than some of the other nut milks that we’ve seen from Suja. In addition, we find the level of banana flavor to be much more tolerable than what you’ll find in the company's Vanilla Nutz variety. Sunset Protein lets the almond milk and the added vanilla and spices be key contributors to the flavor, which, in turn, results in some pretty complex flavor. For a product that is pretty close to being a meal replacement beverage (it has 160 calories, 10g of protein, and 3g of fiber), this is definitely a good thing. And truthfully, the vegan protein and exceptional flavor would make it pretty hard to pick another almond milk smoothie over this one. On the packaging side of things, this product is certainly identifiable as a part of the Suja Essentials lineup and as a nut milk. As we’ve mentioned in some of the other more recent Suja reviews, we do think that the company needs to do a better job differentiating what are now sub-lines of the Elements sub-line. The core design, which is used throughout the Essentials, is something that has very nice visual appeal and stands out amongst competing products. Plus, it is, thanks to the clear panels, something that is visually appealing to the senses. Overall, one of the more exceptional products that Suja has ever created.
