Review: Maca Cold-Brew

The Maca Cold-Brew flavor of Rebbl’s Super Herbs line is a high pressure processed blend of coffee and coconut milk, which the company has enhanced with maca and quillaja (hence the super herbs monicker). In terms of taste, this product tastes very much like a coffee drink. The use of coconut sugar and stevia to sweeten the drink works well, while the touch of salt helps add an extra note at the finish. As far as cold-brew coffee drinks go, this one can definitely hold its own, and it has the extra benefit of being dairy-free. However, we do wonder how the word “maca,” which is placed over “COLD-BREW” on the front of the label will impact the purchase decision. When we first glanced at the product, we saw it as “mocha,” but once you realize it says “maca” it doesn’t exactly whet the palate. For this and some of the other flavors of Rebbl, we feel as though the emphasis on functionality and plant ingredients both complicates the message and potentially undermines the expected flavor of the liquid. If the company could make it slightly less intimidating, the packaging would be pretty much perfect. Overall, we’re big fans of this product, even with some slight room for refinement.
