Official Brand Overview

Swamp Pop was started by cousins John Petersen and Collin Cormier in Lafayette, Louisiana. Collin, the owner and chef of Viva La Waffle, a food truck in Lafayette, recognized the popularity of real cane sugar sodas among his lunch-time customers. With the history of sugarcane farming in Louisiana, the cousins were inspired to create something using real sugar from their home state and flavors that honored the amazing culinary history of South Louisiana. The name Swamp Pop is a tribute to the Louisiana music genre of the same name (a mash-up of R&B, Country, and Cajun music that started in South Louisiana in the 1950's) and a description of sorts – since Swamp Pop is, after all, “pop” from the swampy region of Cajun Country. Collin and John started playing around with rudimentary homemade syrups and realized they were on to something. Relying on John’s business background and Collin’s culinary skills, the cousins began bottling their Louisiana-inspired and naturally-flavored blends late in 2013, and Swamp Pop is now available around the United States in six unique signature flavors.
