Review: I Love My Skinny Body

Like the rest of Teaonic’s products that are currently on the market, this is a rooibos- and hibiscus herbal tea-based formulation. It also features vanilla bean extract, cacao powder, gymnema, rosehips, cinnamon, cacao nib, holy basil, and nettle root and leaf. While it’s labeled as a supplement, it’s truly one of the better tasting rooibos based teas that we’ve ever sampled. It’s unsweetened and extremely smooth (probably due to a lack of preservatives), lacking that bitter note that we often find in bottled rooibos teas. Plus, the notes of cacao and cinnamon are extremely flavorful and enjoyable. We really tip our hats to teaonic for crafting something that’s zero-calorie, loaded with flavor, and very well-balanced. Unfortunately, the liquid is the only portion of this product that we’ll rave about. We’re sorry to say it, but the messaging, positioning, and branding of this product seem very flawed. For starters, the name of the product, I Love My Skinny Body, is something that’s going to have a polarizing effect on consumers. Beyond that, the messaging of the product is so heavy on health-oriented copy that it is overwhelming and takes the mind away from the actual liquid inside the bottle. Also, the company has chosen to go with a straight supplement panel, which doesn’t list calories or any of the other standard nutrition facts that consumers expect to see on products that sit in the beverage cooler (as this one does). Overall, we like the liquid and the visual appearance of the product, but we feel as though the company has pigeonholed itself into a space that won’t have enough volume to command shelf space or to be sustainable for the company in the long run.
