Review: Green

(Last Updated: Jun 20, 2014 at 11:15 AM)
For its Green cold-pressed juice, Trader Joe’s has opted for a not-so-sweet (11g of sugar per 15.2 oz. bottle) blend of common green juice ingredients. This includes kale, spinach, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon and ginger. The resulting blend is big on vegetable flavor, but not overwhelming, which seems like a smart approach given where the product is being sold. The ingredients are not organic, which might be an issue for some, but as Trader Joe’s house brand, it seems like a well-formulated product and one that should do well (the $4.99 price tag doesn’t hurt either). However, we really wish that we could taste the ginger, but we can’t. With a 15.2 oz. square-edged bottle and a clear label, the packaging follows in the footsteps of other products in the category. It’s simple and minimalist, with an easy to read front label that has a pretty matter of fact approach right down to the name “Green.” Trader Joe's has kept the label relatively clutter-free: there's an explanation of high pressure processing and a graphic explaining the fruit and vegetable content as the only things you’ll find on the sides of the bottle (in addition to the required nutrition facts panel, of course). Overall, we like the execution of this product.
