Review: Turmeric Golden Milk
(Last Updated: Oct 06, 2014 at 1:30 PM)
Tumeric ALIVE’s first dairy-alternative beverage is a high pressure processed (HPP) blend of coconut cream, hemp milk, turmeric, cardamom, raw honey, bee pollen, chia seed, vanilla bean, ginger and sea salt. While “golden” might not be the best word to describe the color, the flavor of the product is extremely enjoyable. The base of hemp milk and coconut cream is smooth but slightly decadent, while the honey and vanilla give it a nice secondary flavor. The product isn’t as turmeric-forward as the other flavors of Tumeric ALIVE. It, along with the cardamom, acts as more of a subtle spice than anything else. The bee pollen (which we assume is where some of the drink’s unique color comes from) and the ground chia aren’t things that your palate can easily detect, but we do appreciate the light note of salt at the finish. All in all, this is a very enjoyable tasting product that contains loads of good-for-you ingredients. Speaking of which, the product’s nutritional panel reveals 310 calories, 6g of fiber, 16g of protein and 20g of sugar. It could certainly suffice as a meal replacement. Visually, the product is definitely identifiable as a Tumeric ALIVE product. It uses the same bottle and label scheme as the others -- and we’re pleased to see that the Yoga badge is gone in favor of an HPP badge. The funky color of the liquid makes it hard to miss if you’re looking at a bunch of Tumeric ALIVE products together. However, it does require you to pick it up in order to figure out what it is; it’s not overly obvious from afar. Overall, we really like this entrant from Tumeric ALIVE. It’s both a nice bolt-on flavor and one of the more unique seed or nut milk drinks that we’ve sampled.
