Review: Black Cherry Pomegranate

Made with 50 percent juice and sweetened with fruit juice and added stevia, V8’s V-Fusion Sparkling Black Cherry Pomegranate is a product that is relatively high in calories (60 per can) given how diet-like the flavor tastes. The product feels like it is struggling with what it wants to be. There’'s a pretty heavy juice flavor (we taste pomegranate and apple, but there are a total of five vegetable and fruit juices in the mix), but then it quickly shifts into a CSD-like flavor profile thanks to the carbonation and stevia finish. From a nutritional point of view, the product, which claims it has “one combined serving of vegetables & fruit,” lists vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E at relatively low levels. Factoring this in with the soda like taste, we’'re not really sure who this drink is for -- a CSD drinker, a juice consumer, or someone else? However, the packaging is the weakest part of this product. Yes, it has the V8 brand, which is certainly synonymous with “good for you” with some percentage of consumers, but the visual execution is messy and confusing. That starts with the use of an 8.4oz can, which looks like an energy drink. The design is fairly innocuous, but the amount of text on the front of the can is less than desirable. Overall, this product leaves something to be desired both in flavor and packaging.
