Position Summary

The incumbent will serve as the senior leader responsible for overseeing the organization’s core

business operations, with executive accountability for finance, human resources, and

administrative functions within a national membership-based association. In addition, the role

provides strategic financial leadership to an affiliated foundation, directing all accounting

activities, banking and investment relationships, budget development, and retirement plan

administration.


This executive ensures rigorous fiscal stewardship, operational excellence, and compliance

across all functions while enabling the effective execution of organizational priorities. Working

closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors, the incumbent will shape

and implement policies, strengthen organizational infrastructure, and support long-term financial

and operational sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department including the Controller, Accountant and Accounting Associate
  • Guide and motivate the finance team, collaborate effectively with other departments.
  • Navigate and resolve disagreements efficiently within the organization, providing data needed for perspective.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Ensure organization’s assets are safeguarded.
  • Lead in the preparation of the annual budgets for two entities
  • Create and maintain budgets, forecasting future performance, and tracking key financial metrics.
  • Provide CEO with monthly financial updates on reserves, company profit and loss balance and activity, and other financial metrics
  • Develop, generate, edit and analyze accounting reports and monthly financial statements
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, adhering to accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide constructive and timely guidance regarding all things finance related.
  • Oversee cash inflows and outflows, ensuring adequate liquidity, and optimizing working capital
  • Develop and implement long-term financial strategies aligned with the company’s overall objectives.
  • Oversee the management of the A/R and A/P functions
  • Monitor compliance with 401(k) and 457(b) benefit plans and filing or regulatory reports
  • Oversee state and federal tax filings including Form 990, property tax returns, lobbying returns
  • Review and approve semi-monthly payroll journal entries and a few other journal entries prepared by the Controller
  • Calculate annual dues in coordination with the Controller
  • Audit travel expense reports and invoices on a weekly basis
  • Administers business insurance plans
  • Must work a hybrid office schedule with a minimum of two days in the office per week.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Financial Analysis – understanding financial statements, ratios, and date to make informed decisions
  • Budgeting and forecasting – Creating and managing budgets, forecasting future financial performance, and setting financial goas
  • Accounting Principles - A deep understanding of accounting practices.
  • Tax and Compliance – Knowledge of tax regulations, accounting standards, and compliance requirements
  • Data Analysis – Using financial data and analytics to identify trends and opportunities
  • Communication - Employs excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience working for a trade association highly desired
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required.
  • A minimum of five years as a CFO or similar capacity is preferred.
  • CPA is highly desired.

Salary

Salary: $230,000 – $300,000 per year (based on experience, plus annual bonus)
