POSITION SUMMARY:

NOTE: MUST HAVE PRIOR BREWERY MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE! DO NOT APPLY WITHOUT THAT.

This position is a full-time, facility operations-based role that reports to the CEO. The Production & QA Manager is responsible for all the day to day operations of the production facility. This includes managing the brewing and packaging schedules, communicating with contract customers and other vendors. This role will oversee, manage & act as the point of contact for all personnel working in the production facility. This would include brewers, cellarmen, warehousing, packaging, and maintenance. The Production Manager is on the top of the chain for all things manufacturing. The Production Manager should be able to work independently as well as part of a greater team and be a great leader, as well as being responsible for working with and training staff in production duties.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Personnel Management
  • Responsible for hiring and letting go of staff as needed based on performance, safety, and other critical areas
  • Will manage labor force healthy enough to get all the work done that needs to be done, while being mindful of the company's P&L as to minimize unnecessary labor spend
  • Will meet with each employee who works under them on a month basis for team building as well as individual growth and performance improvement
  • Is responsible for setting each employees working schedule including start times, end times, potential mandatory overtime, etc as well as making sure all employees are taking state required breaks and clocking them on their digital time sheets for required 30 minute lunch breaks for any shift over 5 hours long
  • Responsible for editing time sheets and fixing mixed punches etc in ADP or current payroll software.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Lead all QA tasks which includes making sure proper:
  • Proper filtration and pasteurization processes are followed
  • Proper plating and time in incubation
  • Proper documentation
  • Proper sanitization
  • Inspect and trouble shoot product issues when they arise and try to get to the bottom of issues for learning and prevention of repeats
  • Maintain QA equipment PM and supplies as needed
  • Potential for off-site training seminars and classes could be required (White Labs, etc)
  • Brewing & Cellar Management
  • Production manager will oversee the brewing and cellaring as well as take an active part in brewing and cellaring as a majority of the role outside of management and leadership duties
  • Make sure proper storage and inventory of all chemicals, parts, materials, and product
  • Train staff on SOPs and safety with all equipment and do monthly reviews on these processed with each staff member
  • Maintain proper records for certifications such as Organic, Vegan, Kosher, and Gluten-Free and perform annual inspections and communications as needed to keep compliance.
  • Make sure accurate EKOS for tank representation and transfers
  • Communicate all equipment maintenance needs to maintenance
  • Warehouse & Inventory Management
  • Production manager is responsible for keeping track of brews and planning ahead to avoid going OOS of Local Roots brands as well as being able to stick to co-packing schedules. This includes heavy work with the warehouse manager to maintain all necessary procurement needs.
  • Production manager will oversee the warehouse manager and make sure they are doing their job to the expectations in their job description.
  • This will include:
  • Ensure shipments are accurate and ready for timely pickup
  • Accurate order building, assembly, fulfillment, and freight
  • Receiving and shipment of all materials and making sure all are entered and accurate in EKOS)
  • Manage brewery shipping & receiving schedule; communicate with freight contacts and wholesalers to coordinate dock appointments
  • Accurately enter distributor orders into EKOS, print BOLS, make sure orders are staged and fulfilled in a timely fashion and Post invoice once picked up.
  • Keep tasting room inventory stocked for both package and draft
  • Maintain accurate physical & brewery EKOS inventory of all finished goods, packaging materials, and raw materials, ensuring inventory is rotated FIFO (First In First Out), and properly dated and labeled
  • Ensure inventory needed for all brews and cellaring is in place ahead of production schedule
  • Ownership of warehouse/facility environment and ensure warehouse areas are well-organized, clean, and safe working environments
  • Cleaning! Perform and delegate routine cleaning to maintain facility upkeep
  • Preventative maintenance for our warehouse/facility equipment (forklift, scissor lift, pallet jacks, walk-in coldboxes, etc)
  • Complies & educates team on federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements and safety standards of OSHA within the warehouse
  • Acts as main point of contact for all Powered Industrial Truck safety certifications as needed (forklift, scissor lift & delivery van operation training)
  • Packaging Management
  • Production manager will oversee the packaging team and make sure they are doing their job up to the expected job description.
  • This will include:
  • Assisting in the packaging of products as needed to relieve breaks, repacks, running canning line, etc.
  • Making sure the packaging team is performing all required pre-run checklists which may include but not limited to verifying the correct product and materials are being used, seams are checked, safety is being adhered to, proper cleaning and sanitization as well as storage processes.
  • Make sure packaging team is keeping correct ekos documentation on total packaged goods after runs, etc
  • Make sure packaging team is limiting loss and performing in a conscious manner for best practices and product yield

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MUST HAVE PRIOR BREWERY MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE!
  • 5+ years brewing and cellaring
  • Must have valid California Driver’s License & clean driving record
  • Analytical problem solving
  • Strong communication, good team dynamics, and stellar planning and organizational skills with extreme attention to detail
  • Take pride in maintaining a clean, well-functioning facility
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced atmosphere with poise
  • Proficient computer skills (Google Docs/sheets, calendaring, e-mailing, EKOS)
  • Proficient verbal & written communication skills
  • Must be willing to adjust hours at time for various facility needs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to regularly twist, turn, lift supplies, materials and equipment up to 65-lb (I.e., 30-lb cases of product, 50-lb malt bags, 65-lb kegs, etc)
  • Able to maneuver 175-lb kegs of beer (using appropriate techniques and tools).
  • Able to work in a production environment where noise level is usually moderate to loud and temperature fluctuates
