The Goods Mart is looking for a hands-on Purchasing Manager to own purchasing, inventory management, and product operations for both our retail stores and wholesale business, Curation by The Goods Mart.
This role ensures accurate buying, strong inventory control, and efficient product flow across channels, while also supporting wholesale client needs and communication. You’ll play a key role in maintaining a tight, high-performing assortment that drives sales and minimizes waste.

What Success Looks Like
A great Purchasing Manager at The Goods Mart:
- Manages a strong, high-performing assortment across retail and Curation by The Goods Mart
- Uses data to drive buying decisions, improving sales, margins, and inventory health
- Maintains tight inventory control, minimizing waste and out-of-stocks
- Owns product performance, refining the mix based on what’s working
- Communicates effectively with internal team, brand partners and wholesale clients
- Keeps systems, reporting, and data accurate and actionable
- Acts as a proactive problem solver, improving processes and profitability
Responsibilities - Purchasing Manager
Buying, Inventory & Financial Management
- Partner with the founder to discover and bring in new products
- Manage monthly purchasing budget for retail inventory
- Ensure accuracy of orders and deliveries and approve invoices (AP coordination)
- Optimize product mix to improve margins, reduce waste, and increase sell-through
- Own end-of-month (EOM) inventory process (counts, variance review, reporting)
- Monitor inventory levels, receiving logs, and short shelf-life products
- Track expirations and implement proactive sell-through plans
Analytics & Performance Insights
- Maintain reporting cadence and dashboards
- Analyze:
- Top sellers and YoY performance
- Category trends and product velocity
- New product performance
- Use data to inform buying decisions, pricing, and in-store product placement
- Share performance insights internally and with brand partners
Product & Vendor Management
- Manage product and vendor lifecycle: onboarding, performance tracking, and phase-outs, communicating updates to Store Manager
- Create new product profiles for POS/site
- Own vendor and brand relationships
- Upkeep product catalog for wholesale vertical
- Maintain pricing strategy based on velocity and margin targets
- Ensure accurate and clean product data across systems
Operations, Process & Data Management
- Own product data integrity and ongoing data cleanup
- Maintain and improve workflows for product and brand onboarding
- Build SOPs for scalable inventory and buying processes
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Events
- Partner on curated product assortments for events and activations
- Oversee in-store team and execution (sampling, promotions, product pushes)
- Collaborate with leadership on seasonal and strategic planning
Requirements
- 3-5 years experience in purchasing and inventory management, preferably in food/CPG
- Intermediate ability in excel
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs, climb stairs, ladders, and work on your feet for activities such as inventory counts
