Job Summary

Blackhorse Brewery is seeking a Director of Brewery Operations to oversee and manage all aspects of production, including brewing, fermentation, cellaring, packaging, QA/QC, maintenance, and deliveries. This role requires strong production management experience, leadership, and a hands-on approach. We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated individual who thrives in a team environment, is passionate about producing exceptional beer, and has the ability to mentor employees while helping grow our brand.


Key Responsibilities

Management

·       Lead all aspects of brewery production, ensuring efficiency and quality across brewing, fermentation, cellaring, packaging, QA/QC, maintenance, and deliveries.

·       Plan and schedule production/staffing to meet distribution demands.

·       Oversee raw material sourcing, selection, ordering, and inventory management.

·       Manage yeast health and ordering.

·       Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules.

·       Recruit, interview, hire, evaluate, and coach production staff.

·       Lead production meetings and participate in cross-departmental meetings as needed.

·       Maintain accurate production records in Beer30.

·       Manage finished beer inventory and delivery logistics.

Brewing, Cellar & Packaging

·       Supervise and support production staff to ensure timely completion of tasks.

·       Contribute to recipe development and update existing recipes as needed.

·       Assist in brewing, cellaring, and packaging operations when required.

·       Monitor brewing, fermentation, packaging, and sanitation to ensure adherence to recipes and SOPs.

·       Maintain a clean, safe, and organized brewery environment.

Quality Assurance & Quality Control

·       Oversee the QA/QC department and laboratory functions.

·       Ensure all beers meet product specifications and are released at the highest quality.

·       Conduct diacetyl checks and monitor yeast performance.

·       Expand and improve QA/QC programs, recommending new equipment and processes as the brewery grows.

Training & SOPs

·       Write, maintain, and update SOPs for all production areas.

·       Train and mentor production staff in brewing, safety, and operational procedures.

·       Ensure compliance with OSHA and state safety regulations.

Other

·       Act as a brand ambassador, representing Blackhorse Brewery at industry events.

·       Promote and uphold the standards, culture, and goals of Blackhorse Brewery.

·       Perform additional duties as needed to support brewery operations.


Qualifications

·       6+ years of brewing experience in a production facility (required).

·       Formal brewing education (preferred).

·       Previous employee management experience (preferred).

·       Proven track record of producing high-quality beer with attention to detail.

·       Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

·       Excellent organizational, computer, and communication skills.

·       Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·       Adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

·       Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel regularly; work in hot, cold, wet, and loud conditions; lift 55 lbs and move 160 lbs regularly.

·       Valid driver’s license required.
