Revive’s “Gold” Kombucha is definitely one of the more unique and interesting flavors of the line. While you probably wouldn’t guess it from looking at the label, this flavor is coffee based rather than tea base. In fact, is 100% coffee kombucha, made with coffee from Blue Bottle, a hip coffee chain based in San Francisco. The subtle, but bold, flavor of coffee hides any fermented flavor and although we've never had another coffee kombucha, this one seems extremely well executed. Plus, the carbonation of the kombucha gives the coffee a nice twist and, interestingly enough, the product's caffeine content (32mg) is lowered by the fermentation process. What’s also nice about this formulation is that everything has been done with restraint. It’s definitely one of the most thirst-quenching kombucha drinks that we’ve ever sampled, and it’s nice that it has only 60 calories and 16g of sugar per bottle. And, of course, there are still the probiotic benefits of the kombucha culture. Visually, we really like the swing top amber glass bottle and the overall look of the brand. However, as we mentioned before, they could definitely make it more obvious that this product is a coffee based kombucha. Overall, a very unique and enjoyable kombucha that could definitely have broad appeal.
