Who's Your Daddy Energy Drink

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

The latest buzz is all about Who's Your Daddy's new energy drink. Dubbed the "King of Energy," the company plans to launch the beverage in national retail stores this summer. Once the product gains visibility in the U.S market, the Who's Your Daddy "King of Energy" drink will roll out on a global scale. This energy drink packs a caffeine punch and its unique Cranberry Pineapple flavor, cutting edge design and highly marketable name immediately sets it apart from the rest of the energy-drink market.

Sport Energy Shot - Pomegranate

Product Type:Functional: Energy Shot; Container: 2 fl oz
BevNET Review: Who's Your Daddy's entry into the shot category comes in the form of a zero calorie pomegranate inspired formulation. Flavor is a very tart almost cherry like taste, and it has only a touch of sweetness (sucralose and ace-k blend). Plus, a light touch of tanginess hits your tongue on the finish, which helps hide the functional ingredients of the shot. That being said, we'd rate this shot slightly above average compared to others that we've tried. As for the packaging, Who's Your Daddy uses the popular 2 ounce format, which makes it easily identifiable as a shot, but doesn't allow the product to easily differentiate. We like the bright yellow color of the label and the prime placement of the WYD logo, but there's just a bit too much going on on the label. Specifically, there's the unnecessary "Sport" modifier, as well as a lot of subtext near the bottom of the bottle. On this package size, less is more, and all of this stuff only stands to confuse the buyer -- who is probably seeking energy above everything else. Overall, we like the unique flavor of this shot and the yellow color scheme, but too much text and a stock bottle stand in the way of this product jumping off the shelves.Reviewed on: 1/21/2009

Sugar Free Green Tea Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Diet; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: Who's Your Daddy (WYD) has taken its green tea energy drink and spun it into a sugar free formulation. Sweetened with acesulfame potassium and sucralose (our favorite blend), they've achieved a flavor that's as good as -- if not better -- than the original. WYD Sugar Free Green Tea Energy has a natural level of sweetness and a mild energy bite that's quite enjoyable. The packaging, on the other hand, is not as attractive as its full calorie counterpart. The simple reason is that the all silver backdrop is harder to read than the green of the sugar based version. Overall, this beverage tastes great, but a slightly different color scheme might help it out.Reviewed on: 8/14/2007

Green Tea Energy (Citrus)

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (355 ml) can
BevNET Review: Who's Your Daddy is back with a third flavor, and this time it's with their rendition of the recently popular green tea energy drink. As far as WYD's products go, this is their best to date. The flavor is sweet and crisp, with a drinkable body that, for better or worse, doesn't have that grassy flavor associated with green tea. The lack of grassy flavor is probably directly correlated to the lack of green tea flavor, which could be improved. Also needing improvement is the sweetener -- high fructose corn syrup -- that leaves your mouth with a sugary coating. The green packaging fits nicely with the other flavors of the brand, which, as per our other reviews, still has the novelty factor to it, but the adaptation of a green tea flavor certainly helps the brand gain credibility. Overall, WYD's best effort yet.Reviewed on: 8/10/2006

Sugar Free

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (355 ml) can
BevNET Review: Well, you know what we think of the marketing, so we'll save the repetition of content in this review. The flavor and the image of the sugar free are, in our opinion, better than what the original offers. The fruit punch flavor has a good level of sweetness as far as sugar free products go and the sweetener aftertaste is the better end of the category. However, the formula still tastes like a stock variety, which leaves risk for the manufacturer in terms of competing products creating consumer confusion. As far as the packaging goes, we find the red, white, and blue can to be more attractive than the flagship yellow. Overall, a good update for Who's Your Daddy -- but it still has a bit too much of a novelty feel.Reviewed on: 3/15/2006

Original

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (355 ml) can
BevNET Review: Maybe a catch phrase like "Who's Your Daddy" works when it comes to selling apparel and stickers, but it isn't going to work when it comes to beverages. The reason is simple. Unlike products like t-shirts and hats, beverages rely on repeat buys from the consumer. In this case a corny catch phrase paired with a stock fruit punch energy drink isn't going to generate enough repeat buys to make this a worthwhile addition to Who's Your Daddy, Inc.'s product portfolio. As far as what's in the can goes, it's a solid fruit punch flavor but, as mentioned earlier, a very similar if not identical version can be found in countless other energy drinks on the market. The value proposition of this product just isn't strong enough to lure consumers in. All in all, a mediocre product at best.Reviewed on: 2/13/2006
