Review: Ginger Soother

Pure ginger – not the fake ginger ale, but the straight root – is pretty potent stuff, and not for everybody. That’s what makes the “Ginger Soother” tough to classify – is it a health drink or a mainstream beverage? It’s too bad, though, because if you DO like ginger, this is some tasty stuff. It’s spicy and sweet without being too cloying, and you can smell the honey even with the strong ginger scent that rises once the cap comes off. It comes in a squat PET bottle with a cute ginger root in a Buddha pose on the label, and is a soothing shade of turquoise that is appealing. What might not appeal to certain consumers is the 120 calories packed into every bottle. However, since that total comes from the honey and natural sugars in the ginger root, it might not matter. Ginger has the added bonus of being one of those natural medical fix-its that actually works much of the time, as a nausea fighter and cold reliever, and with its near-immediate effects, it might very well become a steady seller in the natural foods category. Whether it crosses over, however, is anyone's guess.
