Review: Pomegranate (2011)

Of the two pomegranate flavors that have been added to the KeVita lineup, this one is definitely the better one. It has 3 percent juice vs 1 percent in the Pomegranate Coconut variety, resulting in a slightly stronger and tarter pomegranate flavor. This helps smooth out the underlying fermented flavor, making this product much more palatable. However, it lacks the bite that’s found in most kombucha products, making the fermented note feel somewhat out of place (it comes from added apple cider vinegar, it seems). Functionally, the product has four strains of live probiotics, but, given its flavor, we question how many consumers will choose this over alternative means of adding probiotics to their diets. We’d say the same about the packaging, which, with its 16 oz. glass bottle, doesn’t feel overly original. That, in turn, makes us wonder what about KeVita would make a consumer become a loyal drinker. Overall, this product is among the better KeVita flavors, but we’d like to see them work on improving the branding and positioning before adding additional flavors.
