BevNET Review
As far as the Manyk Energy brand goes, the original both tastes and looks the best. Still, both the taste and design leave something to be desired. Starting with the flavor, this is a sugar sweetened “classic” energy drink that has a slightly more pronounced citrus flavor to it. There’s nothing wrong with the flavor, but nothing really standout or overly unique either (you can find very similar flavor from tons of other brands -- a strategy that really hasn’t worked outside of Monster and Rockstar). Functionally, it has all the usual suspects, including caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, etc. Visually, the product definitely has a striking look, but they’ve done so at the expense of creating a package that’s functional in selling the product and building the brand. Using the logo alone, it is basically impossible to figure out that the name of the product is Manyk and it feels as though it was more important to fit the design to a specific shape rather than make it readable. Further hurting the situation is the tagline “Master the Energy,” which, as the only readable text on the front of the can, might be confused as the name of the product. In our opinion, we’d either make the logo more readable and/or replace the tagline (which sounds a cliche energy drink tagline anyway) with text that says “Manyk Energy Drink.” Overall, we think that Manyk’s approach and execution need to evolve a lot from where the product presently stands.
