Matte Leao: Matte Leao Original

Matte Leao is the original flavor in the most popular RTD matte drink in Brazil. The brand is over 100 years old and was recently introduced to the US market. Most US consumers have yet to try Matte as it has been largely confined to upscale coffee and tea houses. Matte Leao is very sweet and tastes organic and earthy. The flavor has hints of caramel and is vaguely reminiscent of normal tea. Note that while matte is a caffeinated and traditionally brewed beverage, it is not related to Camellia sinensis, the evergreen plant from which we get traditional tea. Apart from its distinct flavor, Matte differs from tea in its caffeine content. Even given our relatively robust tolerance for caffeine, we were quite impressed with the buzz after consuming a full 16.9 ounces of Matte Leao. Overall, this is a fun new beverage that we hope North American consumers will give a fair try.
