Billed as “pearl infused beauty,” Seksi is a pearl powder and caffeine enhanced product that is part energy drink and part skin enhancer. Pearl powder, which is used both topically in makeup products and orally (primarily in Asian countries for its skin and digestive benefits), is a unique and exotic sounding ingredient to find in a beverage. However, it has no impact on flavor, with a pretty standard tasting berry flavor that’s sweetened with a touch of sugar (4g per can) as well as sucralose. The low level of calories (15 per can) is certainly a plus for the target female demographic. And while there’s no immediate impact from consuming pearl power or the added calcium, the kick from the caffeine makes for a nice value add. While the design of the can is good from an aesthetic point of view, there’s something about the name Seksi (pronounced “sexy” in case you didn’t get it) that’s a bit too in-your-face for everyday use. Better incorporating the pearl into the name would be the logical approach. Otherwise, it really comes down to whether or not consumers will be receptive to skip enhancing beverages. Overall, an interesting concept with a unique ingredient that, for the most part, is well executed.
