Review: Wassail to You
(Last Updated: Oct 16, 2014 at 3:01 PM)
If there’s any flavor of Suja that tastes like it should be used to make a cocktail, it’s probably this one. Even the flavor’s name, Wassail to You, which is a play on a hot mulled cider that is often spiked with alcohol, should give you a hint of Suja's intentions. That said, this is basically an apple cider that has been kicked up with orange, pineapple, carrot, honey, cinnamon, orange zest, clove, ginger and vanilla bean. Like many high pressure processed beverages that are heavy on the apple juice, this product is definitely on the sweeter side. The clove, orange, ginger, cinnamon and vanilla add a pronounced spice note, which certainly helps cut the sweetness. However, we’re still left feeling as though we’d rather drink this product with some bourbon rather than straight up. Otherwise, this seems like the type of flavor that you might only drink once or twice. Not that there’s anything wrong with it (there really isn’t), but it’s flavor is somewhat strong. On the packaging front, it’s clean, straightforward, and to the point. Suja has forgone the use of any holiday graphics, which we appreciate, and everything that the consumer needs to see is on the front of the label. Overall, we think that this is a fine winter extension to the line.
