BevNET Review
We’ve seen a variety of kava-based products in our day, but Taki Mai is definitely one of the more polished ones that we’ve tasted. Billed as a “naturally calming” kava supplement with coconut flavor, this product has a very straightforward and enjoyable taste. The coconut, kava and agave (added for sweetness) make for something that is very palatable. Plus, it fits with the Fijian theme of the product and adds to the overall authenticity of the product. Functionally, Taki Mai has 1250mg of kava root extract, which puts it alongside supplements that might be taken in pill form. Ultimately, the biggest issue for this product is that its market is largely limited to those consumers who are knowledgeable about kava. Otherwise, attempts to pull in consumers with its “naturally calming” messaging seems like a bit of a stretch, especially as the market for relaxation products (both beverages and supplements that look like beverages) have slowed. Still, we like that the product is, for consumers of kava, a clean and authentic-looking product. Overall, a nicely executed product, but one that seems like it’s after a niche that might be too small in the long run.
