Review: Black Coffee

Venice Cold Brew is a clean and delicious cold brew coffee that comes packaged in a 12 oz. glass bottle. The product is made with direct trade coffee beans, which are steeped in natural spring water for 12 hours. The company triple-filters the liquid and bottles it. The end result is strong, but smooth, and the fact that Venice Cold Brew uses only two ingredients helps the product finish clean. Compared with the rest of the cold brew category, the flavor is definitely up there with the best of them, but we’d be hard pressed to pick this one -- or any of the other high end cold-brews -- as the best. Ultimately, this is an issue for the category and something that is a challenge for any company that’s hoping to establish a brand in the space (note: the Venice Cold Brew does have an almond milk-based offering as well, but this wasn’t available at the time of review). As for the branding, it’s chic and minimalist in its execution. The word “Venice” naturally conjures up an artisanal vibe, which the company has enhanced by using a simple line outline font. Otherwise, this is a product that doesn’t really need to say a whole heck of a lot to communicate what it’s all about. Overall, Venice Cold Brew is a well-executed and enjoyable entry into the burgeoning cold brew coffee space.
