ZICO Chilled Juices: Coconut Water & Orange Juice Blend

Made with not from concentrate coconut water, this product is a bit of a throwback to the old days of the category. But alas, it’s 2014 and this product is being launched in the chilled section of the grocery in a 1.5L carton with a screw top. There doesn’t seem to be a technical reason for this product to be refrigerated (it’s an aseptic container), but so it is. The flavor of the product is predictable, but enjoyable, with the lightly sweet and slightly salty flavor of coconut water. That said, it’s good, but it feels somewhat like a commodity product. On the visual end of things, the 1.5L screw top container has a vibrant and modern look compared to the liter containers that they’ve offered in the past. However, there are still some kinks with this package: the screw cap mechanism often falls off (which basically makes the package impossible to use). Overall, this is a decent product -- albeit an opportunistic one -- but it’s hard to see how this product impacts either ZICO or the category.
