Newest single-field tequila expression from Carlos Camarena is rested in overused American whiskey casks three times longer than Ocho’s core Reposado and bottled 101 proof
ARANDAS, JALISCO, MX (AUGUST 13, 2025) - Tequila Ocho, the world’s original single estate tequila, today announces that it will introduce a new, barrel proof reposado tequila. The new release, the latest high-proof expression from Master Tequilero Carlos Camarena, will hit store shelves and back bars in two waves beginning in the summer and again for the holidays. It will retail for a suggested shelf price of $84.99.
In keeping with Ocho’s artisanal methods and exacting standards, Barrel Proof Reposado stands apart from the already limited selection of high proof reposados on the market. The single-field tequila is made with overripe agaves from Rancho Las Raíces, which is located just ten minutes east of Ocho’s home place, Tequilera Los Alambiques, and is rested in overused American whiskey barrels up to six months — three times as long as Ocho's core Reposado expression. Despite the longer-than-usual resting time, Barrel Proof Reposado retains all of the agave essence that exemplifies Ocho tequilas. The distillery team blends only a couple dozen barrels at a time, utilizes non-chill filtration, and bottles the liquid at a strength of 50.5% abv.
The result is a tequila that delivers intensity and gusto while remaining wonderfully rounded and complex. Intense aromas on the nose. On the palate, a pop of bright agave flavors enveloped in delicious notes of baking spices, dark chocolate, caramel, and white pepper; all in keeping with the sweet, floral and minerality notes Ocho is known for.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Green and fresh with light wood notes. Rosemary, rose, lavender. Fresh jalapeño, lemon tea, orange peel.
Palate: Bright agave, baking spices, dark chocolate, peach, caramel, and white pepper. Dry and slightly salty.
Said Camarena, “The use of overmature agaves from rancho Las Raices, plus the extra time in barrel and bottling this tequila at a high proof, creates the perfect combination for a very well balanced tequila that should be enjoyed neat in a flute glass.”

ABOUT TEQUILA OCHO
Tequila Ocho is the world’s first single estate tequila; curating, selecting and harvesting the very ripest agaves from the world-renowned highlands, and distilling in the town of Arandas, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Tequila Ocho retains complete control of raw materials, from seedling to agave selection, fermentation & beyond, quite unlike most other tequila makers, leading to a liquid which is unparalleled.
The result of a dream shared by maestro tequilero Carlos Camarena and legendary tequila ambassador Tomas Estes, Tequila Ocho reflects the nuances of each and every agave field and is instantly recognizable by its annual vintages. Cooking, fermentation and distillation happen in the most traditional way in slow-cooking stone ovens, wooden vats, and copper pot stills, respectively. Such a painstaking approach has led Tequila Ocho Plata to be recognized by Forbes as the World’s Best Blanco Tequila.
As a tequila brand that prides itself on producing maximum agave flavor and essence, Ocho’s aged expressions, reposado, añejo and extra añejo, rest lightly in old bourbon barrels for a gentle rounding and smoothing by the wood - always complementing, yet never overshadowing, the pure, sweet, cooked agave notes.
Every expression of Tequila Ocho is made from only three ingredients: agave, water & natural airborne yeast, respecting the traditional, artisanal methods used for generations.
