Bevi, creator of the Smart Water Cooler® and the leading connected beverage platform for commercial spaces, announced that its smart beverage dispense systems have officially saved 1 billion single-use bottles and cans. The milestone reflects the collective commitment and impact of Bevi customers, partners, and users choosing sustainable, healthy on-demand beverages over single-use plastic.
“We didn’t set out to build a better water cooler; we set out to make the plastic bottle obsolete. Saving one billion bottles proves that sustainability doesn't require a compromise. It requires a better system. We are proud to be building the new standard for how the world hydrates,” said Cathy Lewenberg, CEO of Bevi.
Founded with the mission to eliminate the need for single-use plastic bottles, Bevi’s IoT-enabled Smart Water Coolers® offer a variety of on-demand, customizable beverages while tracking real-time bottles saved metrics, allowing customers and users to see their environmental impact as they pour.
“Bevi’s environmental impact is very tangible,” says Bevi Co-Founder Sean Grundy. “When visiting clients, it's very common to hear comments like, 'Bevi finally gave me a reason to bring my reusable bottle to work,' or 'Bevi replaced a refrigerator that we used to stock with seltzer every day.’ These small changes add up, with each Bevi drink making up only a fraction of the carbon footprint of a bottled alternative. Having surpassed 1 billion bottles and cans displaced, we're actually making a dent in the enormous, antiquated beverage industry,” he says. “As we continue to scale and improve, we'll go from the exception to the rule, permanently reducing the carbon footprint of beverages while simultaneously improving quality.”
This important milestone comes amid growing global concern about the impact of single-use plastic on the planet, and on our health. Each year, the amount of plastic waste dumped into our oceans is expected to exceed 8 million tons, with 600 billion single-use plastic bottles and containers produced each year. And, a recent study by the National Institute of Health found that there are an average of 240,000 pieces of tiny plastics in a liter of bottled water. Bevi’s smart beverage dispensers provide a healthy, sustainable alternative, filtering out 99.9% of microplastics with the recommended HF20-i carbon filter and helping organizations reduce both plastic waste and the carbon emissions generated throughout the bottling and transportation process.
“To all who made this possible: thanks a billion. For helping us prove that you don’t have to choose between convenience and sustainability, and for building a future we can be proud of. We didn't just save a billion bottles. We proved the world doesn't need them. Here’s to the next billion,” says CEO Cathy Lewenberg.
Bevi machines can be found in offices, universities, warehouses, gyms, hospitals, and other commercial spaces in the United States, Canada, the UK, and Ireland. The company plans to continue expanding its reach and product offerings as part of its commitment to building a more sustainable future.
