ISLE OF SKYE, Scotland (June 25, 2026) — Today, the Isle of Skye’s award-winning single malt whisky distillery Torabhaig proudly welcomes Taigh, the producer’s first core expression, to its portfolio. Exemplifying the distillery’s “Smoke with Taste” philosophy, Taigh will define Torabhaig’s house style for years to come, acting as the guiding reference point for all future releases. Taigh is now available for purchase in select markets across the United States including California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York.
Pronounced “Tie,” Taigh means house in Scottish Gaelic, but for Torabhaig it also means “home,” reflecting the distillery’s place on the Sleat Peninsula, including the landscape, culture, and people who bring the whisky to life. Building on the success of the Legacy Series, the brand’s signature collection of limited-release expressions, Taigh marks the beginning of a new era for the distillery: a whisky designed to welcome a broader audience of whisky drinkers while remaining unmistakably Torabhaig in style and character.
Like all Torabhaig whiskies, Taigh is produced by seasoned whisky maker Neil MacLeod Mathieson alongside a small team of local distillers, all trained in-house. Crafted in small batches and matured in a combination of first-fill and refill bourbon casks alongside select Madeira casks, Taigh offers an elegant, balanced approach to peat that enhances flavor rather than overwhelming it. Bottled at 46% with no chill-filtration or added color, the new single malt delivers gentle smoke layered with vanilla custard, toasted almond, sweet dried fruits, and warming spice.
“We’ve been in production for nearly 10 years, but it’s still early days for our whisky. Though we will continue to explore different casks and ideas with future expressions, we believe that Taigh captures everything we’ve been building towards since we began distilling in 2017,” says Torabhaig whisky maker Neil MacLeod Mathieson. “Our ‘Smoke with Taste’ ethos means elegance, balance, and character, where peat enhances the flavor rather than dominating it. The combination of our traditional first-fill bourbon barrels alongside Madeira make Taigh an especially welcoming, round expression for newcomers, and we’re proud to make it our first evergreen release.”
To mark this new chapter, the distillery has partnered with Scottish poet Iona Lee on an original body of work inspired by Torabhaig’s home on the Sleat Peninsula. Rooted in landscape, language, and belonging, the collaboration reflects the distillery’s belief that whisky is shaped by culture as much as casks. A read of Lee’s work, along with an accompanying video, can be enjoyed via this link.
“Taigh is a word that carries warmth, memory, and responsibility. Writing about Torabhaig’s home on Sleat has been about listening closely – to the land, the weather, the people, and the stories that live there,” says poet Iona Lee. “Poetry, like whisky, takes time, attention, and care. It was important to me that these poems reflect the home of Torabhaig honestly, as a living, working whisky distillery shaped by those who know it best and whose influence can be tasted in every dram.”
Set on Skye’s Sleat Peninsula, Torabhaig is one of only two single malt distilleries on the island. Housed in a restored steading built from the stones of a neighboring ruined castle, the distillery continues a long tradition of craftsmanship on the island, influenced by sea air, weather, and community.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Seaside embers and flint smoke are balanced by earthy woodland notes, evoking an autumnal forest walk. Sweet layers of baked apple pie, maple syrup, and gentle raisin richness emerge alongside a touch of clove, cinnamon spice, and a hint of cereal biscuit.
Palate: Light to medium-bodied, with soft smoke wrapped in vanilla custard, toasted almond, and sweet dried fruits, all carried on a smooth, oily texture.
Finish: Gentle yet spirited, with toasted oak and a sprightly touch of tannin. Lingering vanilla and red fruits mingle with cinnamon and clove spice before settling into a persistent, pleasant smoke that rounds it off with both warmth and approachability.
Availability and SRP
Retailing at $50, Taigh is now available at select brick-and-mortar locations, bars, and restaurants in California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York.
