In 1900 Thomas Fentiman was approached by a fellow tradesman for a loan - a deal was struck, as in those times an Englishman's word was his bond. All that was required was a hand-shake and some security - in this case a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer. The loan was never repaid, and so Thomas Fentiman became the owner of a unique and rather original recipe for success. CURIOSITY COLA takes the Fentimans' range with Fearless (our canine hero), to FIVE. Our fame stems a growing critical aclaim - most recently, our GINGER BEER was voted Best Soft Drink of the New Year by the Independent. All our recipes are refreshingly unique, call us old-fashioned, but we still start the GINGER BEER making process with GINGER ! But Fentimans' is more than just lashings of Ginger Beer . Our latest addition is both Full Bodied & Curiously Invigorating, and revives the apothecarial roots of the first COLA's.

Rose Lemonade

BevNET Review: Like Fentimans' other flavors, Rose Lemonade is a lightly fermented sparkling botanical beverage that is packaged in a very attractive 9.3 oz. glass bottle. In this case, the pink liquid is sweet and tart, with a moderate amount of rose flavor to the drink. However, if you’ve never had a rose-flavored beverage, it might seem a bit overwhelming at first. From there, the drink has a pleasant lemon flavor, which is complemented nicely by the sugar and light note of fermentation. While ginger is an ingredient, we don’t really taste it, although we’d certainly like to. We’d also like this drink more if it were slightly less sweet – it leaves a sugary coating in your mouth. Packaging is very distinct and classic looking, which makes this product visually appealing and memorable. However, a better quality label might help the product look a bit more polished. Overall, an enjoyable product, although we suspect that the market for a rose flavored soda is somewhat of a niche. Reviewed on: 9/28/2011

Cherry Tree Cola

BevNET Review: Like all of Fentiman’s products, Cherry Tree Cola is a premium carbonated soft drink that uses fermented ingredients (in this case, fermented ginger root extract) to create an enjoyable and sophisticated flavor. As far as colas go, the product is sweet, but not too sweet, with a clean cola flavor that’s followed by a splash of cherry. The carbonation is just right, which keeps it from having too much bite (or spilling out of the bottle when you open it). The proprietary glass packaging is very eye catching and unique, giving the bottle a much more premium feel than those that use stock long neck bottles. The name, Cherry Tree, comes from a marketing agreement between Fentiman’s and Cherry Tree Records (part of Universal Music Group). While that probably won’t be apparent to most people who see the product, the name and the graphic that’s used give the product a slight edge and playfulness. Overall, we haven’t seen too many independent brands take a stab at a cherry cola, but Fentiman’s has done a great job.Reviewed on: 9/28/2011

Shandy

BevNET Review: Fentiman's Shandy markets itself as the only brewed shandy on the market....so what exactly is a shandy? Simple, a shandy is a Irish pub drink that's a mixture of half beer and half lemonade (or gingerale if you don't have lemonade handy). The result is a beverage that has an a beer like aroma, but without the alcohol. In fact, it has less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, which allows it to be sold as a soft drink. The flavor of Fentiman's Shandy is unique and definitely well done. The beer flavor feels like a relatively dark brew (similar to Guinness perhaps) and gives the product a nice body, while the lemonade helps give the product a sweet but crisp finish. Overall, an excellent tasting product that fits well with the Fentiman's brand.Reviewed on: 3/10/2004

Ginger Beer

BevNET Review: Fentiman's Ginger Beer is definitely one of the best ginger beers out there. Where not the only ones that agree -- this is an award winning product. Inside the bottle you'll fine a ginger beer that goes down easy, but not before it gives you a good spicy punch. This is exactly what we look for in a top notch beverage -- every detail is perfect. From the high quality ingredients to the beautiful proprietary glass bottle, there's nothing bad about this product. Well maybe one thing -- it's very hard to find in the US. Seville Orange Jigger

BevNET Review: Well you really can't name a product anything more Enlish than Seville Orange Jigger. As for the flavor, this product does not disappoint. Featuring the same botanically brewed formula as the other flavors this product has a bitter base with a sweet orange finish. We'd compare it to a higher quality Orangina with an herbal taste. Victorian Lemonade

BevNET Review: Vicrotian Lemonade is a very interesting lemonade-soda. Specifically, it's fermented (well, it has fermented ginger root extract) and uses 1.5 lemons in each bottle. The result is a clean, but very bitter soda that packs some real punch. In addition, we really like the proprietary glass bottle. Curiosity Cola

BevNET Review: Curiosity cola is a refreshing cola that tries to bring back the old style of cola -- back when they were made in apothecaries as elixirs rather than as soft drinks. Anyway, their formula of ginger, sugar, cola flavor, catauba, and guarana creates a refreshingly unique taste. We'd describe the flavor as being less sweet than your typical American cola, but with a lot more spice in the body. Overall, we really like this product. Love the bottle, too!Reviewed on: 5/13/2003
