BevNET Review: Honest Tea’s Organic Passion Fruit Green Tea with Maqui Berry is a zero calorie offering sweetened with organic stevia extract. Unlike other products that use straight stevia (and there’s no shortage of them), Honest Tea has managed to create something that’s extremely drinkable and has minimal sweetener aftertaste. As for the actual taste of the drink, there’s a pleasant but mellow base of green tea that that’s flavored with passion fruit and maqui berry. While it’s hard to distinguish these two flavors from the mix, it has what’s basically a berry-meets-tropical style to it. Added purple potato juice gives the product it’s bright color, which, in our opinion, makes it look more like a juice than a tea. Packaging is easily identifiable as an Honest Tea product, although the placement and treatment of the “0 calorie” makes it something that’s easy to miss on your first pass across the label. Otherwise, it’s aesthetically pleasing, with the pink color (also a callout to their $100,000 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure) going nicely with color of the liquid. And lastly, there’s the name, which, if we’re picking nits, is a bit of a mouthful. Overall, this is a really well executed product in terms of flavor, with perhaps the best tasting stevia sweetened formula that’s on the market today.
