BevNET Review: Coconut is a flavor that we’re pretty sure has never been used in the history of energy drinks, so we were pretty interested to see how Power Trip’s new Coconut flavor came out. Like their other products, this one is packaged in a 16 oz. can and is flavored with natural and artificial flavors. As far as the coconut flavor goes, it’s very strong and sweet, with an aroma that’s reminiscent of a skin-care product. That makes the product somewhat hard to drink, with the strong flavor overwhelming our palate. This also leaves the product with a bit of flavoring as an aftertaste, although, if nothing else, that's less offensive than a caffeine or artificial sweetener aftertaste. Still, we’d like this product a lot more if they toned down the coconut a bit. On the outside, the product is easy to understand, with unmistakable images of coconuts on the front panel of the can. It’s an effective looking design, but it’s about average as far as overall aesthetics go. Overall, we’re impressed that Power Trip found a reasonably good flavor that has never been used, but the execution (especially the strength of the flavor) could use some tweaking.Reviewed on: 6/2/2009

Power Trip '0'

BevNET Review: Not too sweet, not too distinct in flavor, but not too medicinal either. Power Trip’s manufacturers have obviously spent a lot of time thinking about what they didn’t want their product to taste like. The flavor -- which is a sweet berry / citrus flavor -- actually works quite well and, aside from the absurdly bright blue color is enjoyable. The new 16 oz packaging is a big improvement over the original version of this product and with the prominently placed "O", the purpose of this product will be obvious to consumers. Overall, it tastes really good, but the blue color just doesn't do it for us.Reviewed on: 4/9/2007

The Extreme

BevNET Review: "The Extreme", which appears to be named for its increased level of caffeine (110mg vs 105mg), taurine, and guarana, actually drinks like a traditional energy drink. The flavor is some form of tropical style berry mixture, which, while palatable, is nothing special. It does, however, have a decent dose of energy aftertaste, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. Packaging stands out over the other varieties, mainly because of the large red block letters used for the name of the drink. It's not the cleanest or most elegant looking design that we've ever seen (the white/silver fade cutting behind "The Extreme" is the main culprit), but it's certainly the best of the brand. Original Blue

BevNET Review: The Original Blue variety of Power Trip has gone through a bit of a makeover since its initial release and the product's new 16 oz. packaging is much more attractive than the first version. Still, the word "BLUE" is rather big and, in our opinion, is a bit irrelevant when it comes to the overall purpose/value of this product (blue coloring doesn't add energy, last time we checked). The flavor is pleasant, with a sweet berry citrus mixture used to flavor the product. The biggest negative of this product is the intense blue color that stains your mouth -- something we can live without and we think some consumers will avoid. Overall, above average flavor and decent packaging that would be much improved if there were a little less blue #1.Reviewed on: 4/9/2007

Mango

BevNET Review: Power Trip's Mango variety has a reasonably good mango flavor that does a great job of hiding any lingering energy flavors. Sweetened with HFCS, this product is a bit syrupy in its body, but to a certain extent that actually helps add some substance to the mango flavor. Otherwise, this product drinks like a CSD, but there's a noticeable kick from the caffeine. Packaging needs some work, with an unattractive color scheme behind the Power Trip logo that then has a huge "Mango" banner cutting across it. Our suggestion is to simplify it and try to clean things up -- right now it has several elements that are competing for your attention. Overall, it drinks reasonably well, but needs some visual cleanup.Reviewed on: 4/9/2007

BevNET Review: Not too sweet, not too distinct in flavor, but not too medicinal either. Power Trip’s manufacturers have obviously spent a lot of time thinking about what they didn’t want their product to taste like. But it doesn’t taste like anything in particular, just a standard citrus flavor camouflaged with blue coloring. The can doesn’t do the product any favors, either, as its black, white, red and blue color scheme are fairly generic and doesn't leave any memorable image. Aside form it's use of the 10.5 ounce slim can rather than the usual 8.4, this product feels about as average as they come. Remove the blue coloring and it would likely fare a bit better.Reviewed on: 4/9/2007
