BevNET Review: From a flavor point of view, Wave Energy Drink is a decent tasting energy drink – but that’s about as far as it goes. It’s probably best compared to “classic” energy drink flavor but with citrus cherry flavor mixed in. There’s a little bit of energy aftertaste, but it’s definitely not as bad as some products out there. Then again, it’s not all that memorable, which is the biggest problem for what’s inside the can. According to the product’s web site, this drink has less caffeine than the competition (that’s a selling point), but it’s not mentioned on the can itself. Otherwise, the drink’s functional mix contains taurine, inositol, L-lysine, guarana, and choline bitartrate. As far as the can goes, it’s an innocuous looking design that’s got a decidedly mainstream, mass market feeling to it. Again, there’s nothing wrong with it, but going right into the middle of the energy category without having a clear focus or niche seems like a big risk. Overall, it’s decent, but we think that the brand needs to do more to stand out.

BevNET Review: Wave’s Sugar Free is, like its “Original” variety, a product that seems to be positioned squarely in the middle of the pack, both in terms of flavor and branding. It’s drinkable, but with an aspartame and ace-k sweetened formulation, it’s just not as good as many of the other diet energy drinks that are already on the market. The same can be said for the drink’s energy formulation, which doesn’t articulate its point of differentiation beyond the ingredient panel. Packaging is aesthetically pleasing, but it’s hard to imagine what type of consumer will identify with a brand called “Wave.” Overall, it’s drinkable – and definitely not the worst product out there – but they’ve got to do something more to make this product sell.
