Review: Coconut (2014)

Aloe Gloe’s “Coconut” variety takes the brand into a new — and much more successful — beverage segment. For this product, the company blends 15 percent coconut water with its base aloe water, which definitely makes it taste like a hybrid product. The most noticeable benefit of this approach is that the coconut water helps smooth out the aloe vera and stevia flavors. Still, we’d be lying if we said that we didn’t want just a little more coconut water. Otherwise, we like what Aloe Gloe has done, especially considering how much flavor there is relative to the calorie count (only 25 per 8 oz.). Visually, the tall liter-sized Tetra Pak carton feels like something that belongs next to coconut water products. The company skipped the coconut/tropical beach imagery that’s typical of most coconut water products and instead opted for a dark blue accent color at the top. While we like the subtle and understated approach, we think that there could be a bit less text on the front panel. Some of the items, such as “buy local” seem a bit unnecessary and take away from the cleanliness of the product. Nevertheless, this definitely seems like the company's most marketable effort to date. Crossing into the coconut water category makes sense and will likely help consumers who aren’t familiar with aloe beverages feel a bit more comfortable with their purchase. Overall, a nice addition to the Aloe Gloe lineup.
