bcalm: bcalm

“Bcalm.” is a wellness drink that was designed to be a natural mental clarity and stress relief product. From an industry perspective, that ultimately classifies Bcalm as a relaxation drink. However, it doesn’t contain melatonin or valerian root, but instead utilizes a functional blend of milk casein, anise seed extract, chamomile extract, wild green oat extract, ginkgo biloba leaf extract and B vitamins. In terms of taste, the pink liquid tastes like peach and berry flavor (although technically its "Rose-­‐chamomile-­‐apple") and is modestly (16g) sweetened with sugar. It’s a very pleasant tasting product, especially since it’s not super sweet and you cannot taste the functional ingredients. Visually, the product uses a 250 mL energy drink can, but it has a soothing and soft looking illustrated design. Since the drink is called “bcalm,” having a soothing image seems like a logical approach and we think they’ve done a nice job in its execution. If there are any concerns, it’s in the lack of a flavor description on the front of the can and that consumers won’t quite know how to interpret “wellness drink.” Still, Bcalm is a very enjoyable and original product, especially for the company’s first effort.
