Review: Toasted Coconut Almond Blend

(Last Updated: Aug 04, 2014 at 1:21 PM)
Bhakti’s Toasted Coconut Almond Blend is a sugar-free chai that is made with almond milk. The first thing that we noticed about this product are small white bits floating in the mixture. Since their other almond milk-based chai doesn’t have this, we can only assume that this is the added coconut cream. To that end, this is neither visually appealing or something that qualifies as “toasted coconut.” Between that and the lack of sweetness, this product seems somewhat unbalanced in comparison to its Almond Blend counterpart. As it stands right now, the product is spicy (thanks to the ginger) and tastes more like ginger-flavored almond milk than a chai. While that might sound like we simply don’t like unsweetened chai, it’s not that. Instead, our issue is that in an unsweetened formulation the ginger needs to be adjusted to not overpower the other flavors. And as for the “toasted coconut,” it needs work as the product simply does not resemble toasted coconut. Visually, we first must reiterate what we said about the Almond Blend, but, in addition, we feel as though this product needs more visual distinction from its counterpart. As it stands right now, it’s only done through text and a “Sugar-Free” badge (which also seems like it should be better integrated). Overall, we like the concept of this flavor, but the execution just isn’t up to par at this point.
