Guru Energy Drink: Organic Sparkling Red Grapefruit Energy Water

Of the three flavor varieties of Guru’s Organic Sparkling Energy Water, this one is our favorite. The grapefruit flavor, which is derived from both flavoring and added juice, is very accurate and enjoyable at a level that’s better than the lime or pomegranate flavors. It is, like the other two, sweetened slightly with erythritol and stevia. Given that this is positioned as an energy "water,” we’re not convinced of the use Guru's sweetener strategy even in the brand's best effort. Regardless, the product’s 100mg of caffeine will certainly provide some kick, albeit in a way that’s on par with the category. As far as zero-calorie energy drinks go, this is certainly a nice option, especially since it’s USDA Organic. Visually, the slim 12 oz. can feels like the right size for the product. The callout for the flavor name is a bit wordy, especially since “RED GRAPEFRUIT” is long enough that you have to turn the can slightly to read the whole thing. Furthermore, the Guru logo is hard to read, with its light grey color blending in with the unpainted silver backdrop. Both of those comments being made, we feel as though the design of the can could be refined and the messaging could be simplified a bit. Overall, a good entry into the organic energy space.
