Review: Green Power I

(Last Updated: Jun 04, 2014 at 2:07 PM)
Green Power I is a USDA Organic certified and high pressure processed blend of cucumber, apple, kale, romaine, spinach, parsley, celery and lemon. Of the Green Power flavors (there are four of them), this one is the entry-level formulation in that it has the most sweetness. Still, it’s definitely not what we’d call sweet, with only 8g of sugar per 8 ounces. There’s still a heavy dose of green vegetable and herb flavor, but the cucumber and added lemon work alongside the apple to keep it from being overwhelming. All in all, the execution of the formulation is quite enjoyable. The only issue we see is one of differentiation: this product tastes similar to competing products. Ultimately, this is something that can be made up for with other attributes. Things like pricing, branding, packaging, consistency and availability. On the packaging and branding front, we like that the product comes in both 8 and 16 ounces sizes. We also like the name of the brand and the logo that the company has created, outside of the green “U” which makes your eye go to what seems to be an insignificant part of the logo. Lastly, we’re not overly fond of the Green Power I, II, III, IV naming convention; it both makes it difficult to tell the flavors apart and even more difficult to remember which is which. Adding something a bit less technical might help the product feel more approachable. Overall, a good product that only needs minor refinement.
