Pussy: Pussy

Starting with the obvious, Pussy Energy drink attempts to grab your attention by using a name that has shock value. It’s an approach that will certainly get this product some initial attention, but we think that this will eventually present a roadblock as only some percentage (and probably a small one) will be willing to have this brand as part of their everyday life. Specifically, consumers purchase brands that they associate with and it’s hard to imagine a wide population of people who will associate with something that is, whether they admit it or not, a novelty brand at heart. From our perspective, the choice of name is really the only thing that’s “wrong” about the product. The packaging that they’ve created is clean and feels premium. What’s inside the can is extremely well executed, with a sophisticated tasting lychee and grenadilla flavor that is clearly not a Red Bull wannabe. And functionally, it’s definitely on par with the category, with 80mg of natural caffeine to give you a kick. Overall, Pussy is a product that, outside of its name, feels like it has substance and potential. However, the company's approach, which is to get out of the gate fast, seems like something that will at some point limit where this brand is able to go.
