Review: Revive Kombucha Solar (2014)

We’ve been fans of Revive Kombucha since first sampling its products. The company's latest effort, “Solar,” is no exception. Made with kombucha that uses Guayaki's organic yerba mate, the product definitely tastes different than traditional kombucha. Revive then add raw cold-pressed ginger and lemon juices, and almond and vanilla extract. In terms of flavor, it’s like yerba mate mixed with lemon lime soda and ginger ale. The kombucha and vanilla add to the drink’s finish, which is clean and crisp. All in all, this is a very enjoyable product that might just be Revive’s best to date. Visually, the yellow label sets the product apart from their other flavors. In our other reviews of Revive, we mentioned the lack of visual differentiation between the flavors, so we are definitely happy to see the yellow color. However, we’re a bit thrown off by the name “Solar.” Does the company use solar power to create it? Or this just a conceptual name? We think it’s a fair question given how much of the label is dedicated to Revive's sustainability efforts. Regardless, we think that using a name that helps describe (and therefore sell) the product would be a better route to take. Overall, Revive really nailed the flavor with this one -- it’s our new favorite flavor of their line.
