Slap Frozen Energy: Lemonade

Slap’s Frozen Energy is an unadulterated energy drink that is full calorie (230 per 10 ounce pouch) and loaded with caffeine (140mg per pouch). So what’s “Frozen Energy” all about? The drink is a first of its kind product that is frozen prior to consumption. Once removed from the freezer, the drink turns into a slush like product after thawing for a few minutes (we’re not going to guess which ingredients help it maintain its smooth consistency). In terms of flavor, it’s thick and syrupy, with a flavor that’s on par with frozen lemon ice (or frozen lemonade concentrate) but with a noticeable energy bite to the finish. Packaging is a 10 ounce pouch with a screw top. It’s not overly appealing from a visual point of view, with it relying exclusively on text (and, in the case of the pouches we received an advertisement for a giveaway). While we really like the concept of an energy product that can be sold amongst frozen confectionery products, we question making the calories and caffeine higher than a regular energy drink. If it were lower and on par with an 8oz energy drink, this product would likely have a broader appeal than that segment of the market who is buying their energy drink based upon caffeine content (which is who we think their “25% more energy” claim will appeal to). Overall, high marks for being unique, but improving the packaging and formulation would be nice.
