Review: Chunmee Tropical

(Last Updated: Jul 25, 2014 at 10:26 AM)
The Chunmee Tropical flavor of Suja Elements Cold Brew Tea is an HPP blend of chunmee green tea, pineapple juice, mango juice, honey, lime and coconut palm sugar. The product, which has only 30 calories and 5g of sugars per bottle, is very light but still full of flavor. The base green tea has a subtle grassiness to it, but it quickly gives way to the fruit flavors in the drink. Despite being made with 4 percent juice and some added sugar and honey, the fruit flavors are not really sweet. Instead, we’d compare them to what you’d find in a flavored water or another low-calorie tea (e.g. Honest Tea). Also, there’s some grit to the product, which appears to be pieces of fruit pulp. All in all, this is a very enjoyable tasting tea, especially considering that it has only 30 calories. It’s hard to really determine how much this product benefits from being HPP versus pasteurized, but we definitely like the concept of a cold brew tea as part of the Suja line. We also like how they’ve differentiated the packaging, but still managed to make it feel like a part of the overall Suja brand. Overall, a very nicely executed tea beverage.
